Co-Prime EMS marks first night emergency medical service helicopter landing

The first night emergency medical service helicopter landing at the Co-Prime EMS helipad in Wilkeville, Klerksdorp, marks a milestone ahead of its planned opening on 7 November.

A ROCKET air ambulance is pictured on the paved landing area after dark, bringing a new chapter to a project built through the hands-on work of the Co-Prime EMS owners and staff.

For the local team, the landing follows time spent preparing a site intended to help connect helicopter patient transfers with onward transport to hospitals. For the community, it is an update on a project with patient care at its heart.

A closer look at the landing

The first night emergency medical service helicopter landing puts the Wilkeville helipad back in the local spotlight ahead of its formal opening.

Photographs shared with North West Insider show the ROCKET air ambulance on the landing area, with its branding and registration visible. Another view captures the circular pad at twilight, with small lights around its edge.

The aircraft gives residents a clearer picture of the setting the team has been preparing. What was introduced as a local building project now has another milestone to its story: a helicopter on the pad after dark.

The helipad’s intended purpose remains the same. It is being developed as a central place for helicopters to land so that patients can be transferred onward to the hospitals they need. The site forms part of that planned link between air and ground transport.

A local team behind the project

Owners Michelle and Paul, together with staff Stephan, Kassie, Gys, SW, Lucianne and Nadine, are the people behind the work.

The owners and staff laid out the helipad themselves. During North West Insider’s earlier visit, they had been working in the sun to prepare the site. That effort gives the project a personal connection to the people who are building it.

Their contribution goes beyond arranging an opening day. They have put their own time and physical work into a place intended to support patient transfers. The latest landing is another step in that story, while the planned opening will give residents a chance to see the site for themselves.

Families invited to the opening

The opening and Family Fun Day are planned for Saturday, 7 November 2026, at the corner of Ian and Steyn streets in Wilkeville. Activities run from 09:00 to late afternoon.

The advertised programme includes a DJ and local artists, vintage cars and bikes, firefighter activities, waterslides and face painting. Health screening, blood donation, food and other stalls are also listed.

ROCKET and Netcare helicopter visits are on the advertised line-up, subject to operational availability.

The day offers families a chance to spend time together and meet the team behind the helipad. Alongside the activities, it will introduce the community to a project whose planned purpose reaches beyond the celebration.

Our view

Local projects mean more when residents can see the people and effort behind them. Co-Prime EMS’s first night landing is an encouraging moment for a team that has done the groundwork itself. We look forward to the opening and to following the helipad’s development around its intended role in helping patients reach hospital care.
