KLERKSDORP | Local artists, musicians, food vendors, bikers and members of the community will come together on Saturday, 28 November 2026 for Kuns met Vriende, a colourful community art event at La Piazza Square in Flamwood.
Entrance to the event is Free!
The event aims to bring art out of traditional gallery spaces and into a relaxed public setting where people can meet local artists, enjoy live creativity and spend time together as a community.
Bringing art closer to the community
At the heart of Kuns met Vriende is a simple idea: art should be accessible.
Instead of asking people to visit a formal gallery, the event creates an open space where visitors can walk between artworks, speak directly to artists and discover some of the creative talent found in Klerksdorp and surrounding areas.
Local artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work, while emerging performers, musicians, poets and other creatives are also being encouraged to participate.
The event is intended to create a relaxed environment where established artists and new talent can be seen alongside one another.
Visitors will be able to browse artwork, enjoy food from participating stalls, listen to entertainment and spend the day experiencing local creativity.
A platform for local talent
One of the main goals of Kuns met Vriende is to give local artists greater visibility.
For many artists, especially emerging creatives, finding affordable opportunities to exhibit work can be difficult.
Community events such as Kuns met Vriende offer artists the opportunity to meet potential buyers and supporters directly, while also allowing the public to discover work they may never otherwise have encountered.
The event also encourages people to see original local art as something that can form part of everyday life, whether as a gift, a piece for the home or simply something worth stopping to appreciate.
Artists invited to exhibit on the day
Artists are invited to show their work at Kuns met Vriende.
The invitation is open to local artists who would like to exhibit, and to singers, poets and other creatives who would like to take part in the day.
Artists and creatives who would like to be part of Kuns met Vriende can contact Maryke from North West Insider on 073 304 0905 or Charles on 083 639 9790.
Bikers to support Klerksdorp Tehuis vir Bejaardes
The day will also include a special motorbike drive-through in support of the Klerksdorp Tehuis vir Bejaardes.
Participating bikers are being encouraged to bring toiletries that will be donated to residents of the home as part of a Christmas collection.
The bikers will ride through the venue, deliver the donated items and add their own distinctive presence to the day’s activities.
They are welcome to stay and enjoy the event, although the drive-through has been structured so that riders can also simply arrive, make their donation and continue with their day.
The toiletries drive forms an important part of the event’s wider community focus.
Rather than creating a day centred only on entertainment, the organisers hope to use the gathering to support a practical need within the local community.
A day built around Klerksdorp
Kuns met Vriende is ultimately intended to celebrate what Klerksdorp already has.
Artists, musicians, small businesses, food vendors, bikers and residents all form part of the same community, and the event brings those different groups together in one public space.
The organisers hope the day will encourage people to slow down, talk to artists, support local businesses and enjoy the creative talent that exists close to home.
Visitors do not need to be art collectors or artists themselves to attend.
The event is designed for families, friends and anyone who would simply like to spend time in a colourful and creative community environment.
Kuns met Vriende is about more than displaying art.
It is about giving local talent a place to be seen, giving the community a reason to gather and creating a day that belongs to Klerksdorp.
Our view
A free day of art, music and community in the heart of Flamwood is the kind of event Klerksdorp can be proud of. We hope local artists take up the invitation to exhibit, and that residents come out to meet them, support the stalls and add to the bikers’ collection for the Tehuis vir Bejaardes.
