The Co-Prime EMS helipad opening in Klerksdorp on Saturday 7 November 2026 will mark a hands-on effort by its owners and staff. The team laid out the helipad themselves, working in the sun to prepare a landing point intended for helicopter patient transfers to hospitals. A Family Fun Day will mark the opening in Wilkeville, but the work behind the site gives the day a deeper meaning.

The helipad is on the corner of Ian and Steyn streets. Its planned role is to give helicopters a central place to land, where patients can then be moved to the hospitals they need. The landing is one step in that journey. Patients still need care and transport between the helicopter and the hospital.

Built by the people behind the service

Owners Michelle and Paul together with their staff Stephan, Kassie, Gys, SW, Lucianne and Nadine are the team behind the work. The owners and staff took on the task themselves. When North West Insider visited, the team had been working in the sun and were visibly sunburnt.

That effort is part of the story residents will not see in the opening programme. Behind the planned celebration are people who have put their own time and physical work into laying out the helipad. The opening will give the community a chance to see what they have been working on.

A landing point with the community in mind

The helipad is being prepared as a central place where helicopters can land and patients can be transferred to the hospitals they need. It will provide a meeting point between air and ground transport, with patient care at the centre of its planned purpose.

For Klerksdorp, this is a local project built around a community need. The owners and staff have put their own time and physical effort into preparing a place intended to help emergency teams move patients onward to hospital.

That gives the opening a meaning beyond the day’s celebrations. It is a chance to recognise the people behind the work and introduce the community to what they are creating. The Family Fun Day will bring residents together, while the helipad’s planned role in patient transfers remains at the heart of the project.

The story beyond opening day

North West Insider plans to attend the opening and take photographs. Our follow-up article will look at how the helipad will be used and what changes for patients in Klerksdorp. We want to explain the journey in simple terms: how patients reach the site, how transfers are arranged and how they get from the landing point to hospital. We will also ask which services can use the site and when transfers can begin.

Families invited to the opening

The Family Fun Day starts at 09:00 and runs until late afternoon. The programme includes a DJ and local artists, vintage cars and bikes, firefighter activities, waterslides and face painting. Health screening and blood donation are also listed, along with food and other stalls.

Rocket and Netcare helicopters are on the advertised line-up, but their visits depend on whether they are available for the event. Lenmed Wilmed, Life Anncron and the Fire Brigade are also named on the event material.

Our view
Seeing the owners and staff doing the work themselves gives this opening a personal heart. To us, it is a labour of love, with a planned purpose that reaches beyond a family day out. The next step is to hear how the landing point will be used for patients. We welcome the team’s effort and look forward to reporting on what it brings to Klerksdorp.
