B-Gallery Wilkoppies art exhibition

In Greek mythology, Pandora opened her box and unleashed all the world’s troubles. November this year felt different. When Pandora – or rather, Zet Havenga – opened another successful The B-Gallery Wilkoppies art exhibition in Michael Street, Wilkoppies, she released something far better: creativity, colour and community pride.

Walking into the B-Gallery Wilkoppies art exhibition felt like stepping into a living canvas. The gallery was alive with colourful art pieces that immediately commanded attention. Some works were bold and energetic, filled with sweeping lines, layered textures and expressive structures that seemed to shift as you moved past them. Others carried a quieter elegance: fine strokes, gentle curves and delicate detail that drew you closer with every step.

What pulled me in most were the bursts of pink and turquoise scattered throughout the room — especially in the pieces by Anni Thirtle. Her work carried those colours with intention and emotion, creating glowing contrasts that immediately drew the eye. The playful pinks felt youthful and full of life, while the vibrant turquoise accents added a fresh, almost airy brightness. Together, they shaped the mood of the entire exhibition.

The sculptures — all created by André Austin — added another dimension to the experience. His curved silhouettes caught the gallery lights perfectly, casting soft, shifting shadows across the walls. Each sculpture carried his unmistakable balance of strength and sensitivity, grounding the room with presence, texture and emotional weight.

Handcrafted works — especially the textile pieces by Elsa Nieuwenhuis — brought their own tactile richness to the exhibition. Her meticulously created murals, table runners and pillowcases added warmth, texture and a sense of homely artistry to the space. Every stitch, pattern and colour choice reflected her signature style: thoughtful, detailed and beautifully made.

Speaking to the organiser and owner of The B Gallery, Zet shared how extremely proud she is of all the exhibitors who participated. “I want to give back to the community,” she said with a warm smile. Inspired — and trying to live up to my own “art-fundi” ambitions — I left with one of her pieces myself. While moving from artwork to artwork, enjoying a delightful slice of spinach pie, my eagle eye spotted Mariè Britz — owner of Eagles Property Consultants — browsing and purchasing a few treasures of her own. Side Eye Marketing was also represented, with Maryke Rensburg treating herself to an early Christmas gift.

A number of gifted artists displayed their work for guests to enjoy and purchase, including:

Andre Austin – Artist and sculptor, Dorothy Laguerenne – Artist, Zet Havenga – Artist extraordinaire, Elsa Nieuwenhuis – Handcrafted textiles (pillowcases, murals, runners and decorative pieces) and Anni Thirtle – Artist

Together, their contributions transformed the B-Gallery Wilkoppies art exhibition into a vibrant, inviting space filled with colour, texture and creative energy. This initiative by Zet Havenga takes place a few times a year, and I already hope the next one is not far off. “2026 will be the year I buy more art,” I silently told myself.  (See photo, I DID purchase an artwork that day).  Many guests attended the opening, and judging by the smiles on their faces, they were moved for a reason: a genuine love for art in all its forms — whether in a painting, sculpture or handcrafted textile piece. Zet Havenga — you and your team, including Suri — did a stellar job of opening our eyes to art once again and opening a far better version of Pandora’s Box for the world to enjoy. Wishing Zet Havenga and team great success on their forthcoming art-exhibitions to take Klerksdorp by new creative storms.
